search it up on vw vortex. i believe its called a hybrid engine. get a 1.8 jh head ( which came on the 85+ gti's)
and match it to a 2.0 bottom end. makes for a good motor that can rev to 8 grand |

jh is a solid lifter head motor. 85+ is hydro.
it's an easy swap from what i've seen. _________________ VAG COM in forest lawn.

only way to tell for sure that is easy is by pulling the valve cover, solid lifter heads have 5 bearing caps, hydraulics have 4.
If you swap a hydraulic head onto an earlier block they say to also install the hydraulic engine oil pump.
As for what one, hard to say, solid you have to adjust yourself but ti does have the 5 caps so i think at high rpm it would be more suitable.
Other is hydraulic and build it up with new lifters and i would iamgine it will work fine for pretty much all applications.
Cam choice are also different for each style of head. _________________ 1988 Golf Cabrio White

I have an ABA JH head and a big cam in it. If you are doing this sway you want a solid lifter head.
You get some really high compression ratio with this swap.
Running it on CIS is no problem.
Let me know if you want some more info... or if you just want to buy the engine.... got bigger plans for this summer. |

i smashed my 87 16v rocco and i asked bernei and he told me that the wire harnesses from 1985-92 in the cabrio is will hook up to the whole rocco fuel management system if you have it, he said all i would ahve to do is play with the fuel lines,
at one point i really wanted to do this swap |
